Free Cake Decorating Classes At Hobby Lobby

cake decorating at hobby lobby has anyone done it?

Im thinking about taking it but dont know if it is worth the expense that ill have to put into it to do it. has anyone done it? what are your thoughts?

What is your question? Is it a class you can take? If so, only you can weigh the costs and benefits. What would you use it for? Are you prepared for the additional expenses of purchasing supplies, etc?

Hoenstly- I'd wait until after your wedding to do anything of that nature. You only have 7 weeks left- focus on the wedding for now! You don't want to stres yourself, timewise or moneywise.

It is a 4 or 5 day class (fridays only for 2 hours) teaching the cake decorating basics. other than that i dont know. i do know some,but am wanting to learn fondant and that kind of thing....who knows

no i am not making my own cake. we are not having a cake. i just want to learn. i would eventually like to get good enough that i can make cakes and sell them.

I was asking if anyone had taken the class. do they actually TEACH you or just talk about things. i have taken classes before that were supposed to teach something and they just talked about how they do this or that i never got to actually do waht i was "learning"

by asking is it worth it i was asking if i buy the tools needed would i actually use them in the class. i have wanted to buy a starter kit and teach myself(i do know some) but never did it because......i just never did.

the kit is only 30.00 ish which is a GREAT deal for what you get! so as far as price goes its great, and my g ma said she will pay for it i just have to get there.

wedding stuff--its done. i gave up on planning months ago. were having close family only no decorations,no reception just a wedding. not a big deal as far as that goes.

maybe that made it a little more clear???

I'd take the class. If all they do is talk (which is unlikely. They are usually pretty hands on), you'd meet other people interested in the learning the same thing.

I took a scrapbook class once, and made friends with some of the girls. We ended up doing monthly scrapbooking nights at someone's house- so we all shared supplies and stuff. It was great! I could borrow the fancy scissors I didn't own, etc. You may make a friend, or find about other fun classes at other places in the area.

I have not taken the class but my aunt and my best friends mother have both taken it. They loved every minute of the classes. My aunt has gone on to make great birthday cakes for the family.. and my best friends mom has done the same. As far as the class they teach you different things each class such as different decorating tip and tricks.You will then decorate the cake you bring to the class with the instructors help. If you are looking for a hobby I think it's a great idea I have even thought about doing it myself. I say go for it!

I have been looking on youtube at videos people have put on there of what they did and it seams to be worth it. I guess it cant hurt right?? just gotta get there...i hate bing an hour from the nearest civilization.

I took the class at michaels (which is almost the same class), I liked it and will be going back for the other 2 courses. You do decorate cakes,cookies and cupcakes and she teaches you how to do/make nicer decor on them. She shows how to and how not to do something, I learned more about baking n decorating then I knew before

Awesome! thanks for the input. i was just afraid because of other classes i have taken that it would be a waste of gas to drive all the way there, and for my g ma to buy all the stuff it takes. did you have to bake the cakes or was that supplied? if you make it do they require you to make a specific kind? not that its a huge deal i was just wondering.

SO i talked to the lady teaching the class and this is what i know, she said if i have done ANYTHING cake related just skip over class 1 and go to the more advanced level classes!!! AND this session (normally 45.00) is now 20.00 with a 5.00 cupon. ALSO i found coupons for 40% off the supplies sooooooo im going to take for sure 1 class, maybe even 2! wayyyyy to excited!!!

I have taken the classes at Michaels. I took the whole series, 4 classes, and I loved them. They did teach, our whole class was hands on, learning the steps. I definitely think it was worth the cost.

I worked at Michaels for 5 yrs and like you said. They ALWAYS have sales on the class fee themselves. And then they run deals on a free class fee if you buy the corresponding wilton class. Your best deal is go 40% off on the the largest box with accessories and you'll have less to buy. but a lot of people like to buy it as they go a coupon with everything LOL

Also watch when they have the class preview days.. usually on a saturday all the teachers come in and do demos.. they always offer great deals those days for class fee or supplies.

Im confused...deals on a free class? does this mean if you take a class you get one free?

i never thought to just buy a huge package of stuff and have it all at one time. ill have to price check but i assume it would probably be easier and cheaper since i will most likely be taking 2 of the classes at the same time then going back to the first class. i skipped over the first because i already know quite a bit of it, but want to take it later just to re fresh.

are the demos listed on the website or how do i see when they are?

as far as extras, what do i need to expect to buy? do they let you use cake mixes or do they require you to make the cake from scratch? if cake mixes are ok im in luck they are on sale 10 for 10 this week!!

You can use cake boxes, I had to take something diff each week like cookies,cake,cupcakes and etc. There will be other things you have to buy other than the kit n cake mix. I spent around $150 buying all the extra stuff I needed and its better to start from course 1. You do learn a lot of things and proper ways to do n not to do, and how to. I had lots of fun and learned a lot of things I didn't know before and now I know the proper way on baking and decorating a cake

Holy cow! is the extras NEEDED extras or just fun stuff to play with? the only reason i an skipping the first section and going to 2 and 3 is i took a VERY similar class in high school so i pretty well know what will be taught, and i REALLY want to learn the other stuff. my g ma offered to pay for it so i would rather get the stuff i really dont know rather than re do stuff i know.

Sorry.. I didnt see hobby lobby.. I just read it as "a hobby" . But yes michaels runs specials like by the wilton kit like $25 and the class is free. then you use a 40% coupon on the kit.

Demo days you can just call and ask, every store is different. And a lot of people would get the $170 kit with a 40% or 50% coupon and have the accessories. Michaels takes Joannes coupons too.. in case you didn't know..

Hmmm she did not mention that to me yesterday when i talked to the lady teaching all she said was its a 45.00 class and they are giving half off if you register the day of then 5.00 back. the kit is 39.99 and you can use a coupon on that too. i just learned that they take other coupons today they also take hobby lobby coupons.
